Gregory S. Smith, Sr. has been appointed to St. Paul, effective July 1,
Our new pastor was born in Long Beach
California and raised in New Jersey. A son of the parsonage and a
blended family, he was exposed at an early age to service as
demonstrated by his parents. His step-father was an AME Minister and
Presiding Elder (superintendent) in several lead churches and districts
throughout New Jersey. Because
of this, Pastor ‘G” remained active in his church, local, and civic
communities. After graduating from Princeton High School in 1982, Rev.
Smith attended Rutgers University where he received his BSW and MSW
degrees consecutively in 1986 and 1987.
Smith has served as a licensed clinical social worker, having worked for
over 30 years in medical, clinical, psychiatric and youth development
programs. From 2006-2016, he was employed as the Program Director of the
“Making Visions Possible” school based Youth Service Program at
Willingboro High School. There he aligned himself with several key
community representatives whose objectives aimed to keep students in
school and achieve their personal and academic goals.
accepted the call to pursue pastoral ministry in 2007 and began a second
education in ministry by obtaining his Masters of Divinity Degree from
Princeton Theological Seminary, which he received in May 2015.
He is a preacher, teacher, workshop leader, but best enjoys visiting and
serving his congregation. As a pastor, he served Bethel AME Church in
Pennington for three years and most recently, as pastor of Mt. Zion AME
church in Trussville, AL.
